The Newberry Institute builds resilient communities through food access, education, civic engagement, and youth development.

Welcome to The Newberry Institute — where community, innovation, and purpose converge to drive meaningful change.

Since our founding, we’ve worked to confront urgent social, environmental, and educational challenges through bold ideas, grassroots partnerships, and practical, sustainable solutions.

We believe real progress starts with the people closest to the issues. That’s why we collaborate directly with communities, local leaders, and mission-aligned organizations to spark action, build resilience, and expand opportunity. From food access and education to health equity and environmental justice, our work centers on inclusion and long-term impact.

Together, we’re shaping a more just, vibrant future. Join us—and be part of a movement that turns vision into action.

Value Statement

The Newberry Institute envisions a world where resilient communities flourish through shared purpose, meaningful partnerships, and inclusive growth.

By honoring history, empowering through education, and embracing diversity, we inspire individuals to shape a future rooted in unity, sustainability and civic engagement. Guided by a commitment to democratic values and community well-being, we aim to foster a legacy of collaboration that uplifts every voice.

Our Story

The Newberry Institute (TNI) began with a simple yet powerful vision: to build resilient communities through purposeful partnerships. Rooted in Hawkinsville, Georgia, we launched with the belief that real change happens when people come together to tackle challenges and create opportunity.

What started as a local effort to fight food insecurity has grown into a multifaceted movement—spanning food access, environmental conservation, interfaith dialogue, civic engagement, and more. Every TNI initiative reflects our commitment to equity, sustainability, and community-driven progress.

From Rosa’s Second Harvest and Annie Lee’s Porch to Ameenah’s Interfaith Center and the Plow & Pew Democracy Center, our work is shaped by those we serve. Volunteers, partners, and neighbors have been the force behind every milestone.

As we look ahead, our mission remains clear: to strengthen communities, inspire hope, and lead with compassion. Join us as we write the next chapter—one partnership, one program, and one community at a time.
