Executive Director

Shirley M. Jackson is a dedicated leader at Rosa’s Food Pantry, tackling food insecurity with compassion and innovation. Her expertise in community outreach and nonprofit management ensures vulnerable families access nutritious food while fostering partnerships to empower the community and combat hunger.

Dr. Julius Johnson

Board Chair

A seasoned diplomat and educator with 30+ years in international development, he holds a PhD in African Studies and has led transformative USAID programs in Africa and the Middle East. Founder of The Newberry Institute, he champions democracy, education, and community empowerment globally.

Ameenah Saleem

Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Ameenah Saleem is a seasoned project leader with 12+ years in engineering, project management, and nonprofit administration. Skilled in strategic problem-solving and cross-functional leadership, she holds a Master’s in Civil Engineering and manages operations across the U.S. and Kenya.

Fred Arungah

Director of Programs

Fred Arungah is a seasoned project management professional with 20+ years of experience in B2B and B2C sectors. Known for leading complex programs—from micro-insurance for underserved communities to large-scale logistics in conflict zones—he excels in disruptive innovation, data science, and design thinking, delivering transformative solutions across Africa.

Project Coordinator

Chevella Dyer is a Democracy Center Coordinator at The Newberry Institute, blending community organizing and public policy expertise. She creates programs to boost civic engagement, democratic dialogue, and community empowerment, championing social justice and inclusive leadership to strengthen democracy.
