Our Commitment to Community, Culture, and Sustainability
Discover The Newberry Institute’s Core Initiatives: Empowering Civic Engagement, Preserving Heritage, Nourishing Communities, Fostering Unity, and Advancing Environmental Stewardship. Together, We Build Equitable Futures Rooted in Action.

Ameenah’s Interfaith Center
Ameenah’s Interfaith Center is a safe and welcoming space for spiritual reflection, shared learning, and interfaith dialogue. Rooted in mutual respect and community service, it fosters cross-cultural understanding while supporting the emotional and spiritual health of our neighbors.

Annie Lee’s Porch Heritage Center
Annie Lee’s Porch is a cultural memory project celebrating the untold histories of Black Southern life. From oral history archives to community storytelling events, we preserve legacy, honor elders, and inspire future generations through shared heritage.
The Plow & Pew Democracy Center
The Plow & Pew Democracy Center promotes civic engagement and public leadership in rural communities. Through voter education, local dialogue, and community organizing, we help ensure that every voice is heard and every resident is equipped to shape the policies that impact their lives.

Rosa’s Second Harvest
From food rescue to mobile markets, Rosa’s Second Harvest delivers fresh, recovered produce directly to rural families across Georgia. Through SNAP-enabled pop-up markets, community gardens, and nutrition education, we nourish people, reduce waste, and empower communities with dignity and purpose.
We connect hearts, transform lives and foster a sense of belonging for everyone

USDA Forestry & Conservation Program
Our USDA Forestry Program connects rural communities to environmental stewardship and green jobs. Through tree planting, conservation education, and climate-resilient land management, we empower residents—especially youth and veterans—to care for the land while building skills for the future.
